Port Townsend Saltbox
2002
This 1,100 square foot saltbox style house sits on the edge of a protected wildlife buffer near a bluff overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The design was originally inspired by a tall, thin cabin in the facing field.
The house is made with a small, vaulted area at the entrance and a central staircase that helps create passive heating. The floors above the living area are made of car decking and large beams giving the entire house a Northwest feel.
The bedrooms upstairs boast vaulted ceilings and large windows mirroring the first floor.
The windows, open space, and varied ceiling heights give the home an airy, natural essence that effortlessly blends the indoors and outdoors.
